The nearest international airport is the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, which is located at a distance of 205 KM from Satara. The city is also connected well to other parts of India by the rail network. The Satara railway station is a major junction for trains traveling from Maharashtra to the south and vice versa. In all, there are a total of 11 railway stations in the district of Satara.

Road connectivity to Satara is in the process of being upgraded to serve increased demand and travel needs of the city’s population. City of Pune is located around 125 KM by road from Satara. Corresponding distances for other cities are, Mumbai – 213 KM, Kolhapur – 135 KM, and Solapur –200 KM.

Sajjangad Fort –The name of this fort literally translates into ‘Fort of Good People’. The place is famous as the final resting place of the great social reformer and saint, Ramdas. The fort changed many hands during its illustrious history before being given the name Sajjangad by the then Maratha King, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

Thosegarh –The Thosegarh waterfalls are the one of the biggest attractions of Satara. These are a series of waterfalls ranging from a few that fall to 20 meters to one that falls a massive 500 meters. Marked by serene and calm surroundings, the place is a favorite with picnic goers in the monsoon and post-monsoon season.

Ajinkyatara –Satara derives its name from the seven mountains that surround it. One of these seven mountains is Ajinkyatara. Constructed in the 16th century, the fort today houses the city’s television tower. The fort has witnessed many landmark moments in the history of the Maratha Empire. It also provides a spectacular view of the entire city from its summit.

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Museum –Located right in the heart of the city next to its bus stand, this museum displays the glorious history of the Bhonsale family, descendants of the great Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj himself. A variety of weaponry, clothing, notes, paintings and other cultural items from the last 400 years is displayed in this museum.

Mahabaleshwar & Panchgani –These are two of Maharashtra’s most famous hill station destinations. Suited to visit throughout the year, Mahabaleshwar and Panchgani provide a welcome respite from the humdrum of daily life to the residents of Satara. Both hill stations are located around 50 KM from Satara city.

Kaas Plateau - Its a Plateau of Flowers located in the Western Ghat Sahyadri range, 22 kilometers from Satara city in Maharashtra state of India. It also known as the "Kaas Pathar". The plateau is full of wild flowers during the months of August and September. Recently it has been declared as Biodiversity World Heritage site by The United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco). Nearby is Kaas Lake surrounded by dense forests. The place has more than 850 different species of flowers and other plants. It is great place to visit.
